Detailed Information Page for Steer 1D

Steer 1D was born at Whitesell Farms Wagyu on 6-Jan-16 in our sixth year of production of Wagyu influenced beef at our farm on the top of Battleground Mountain in the northwest corner of Cullman County, Alabama. He is a third generation F2 (75%) Wagyu cross steer, one of the first we've raised to finish. By this time, he has a lot of great marbling and growth genetics in his background from three great Wagyu bulls.

The sire of 1D is a bull we raised on our own farm for the purpose of breeding; WFW Bama Akiyoshi 10B. This bull has a great balance of growth and marbiling genetics that make him a solid choice for F2 production. For more information on this bull, you can follow this link.

The dam of 1D, WF2 Ms Little Foot 15A, was one of the first F2 heifers we retained. This is her first calf and it finished in the top 10% of its contemporary class. You can find more information on her by following this link to her record in our listing of herd cows.

1D spent his first 205 days in a pasture on our farm with his mother as his main source of sustenance. At weaning on day 205, he weighed 512 lbs, above average for an F3 steer. At weaning, he transitioned to our "Grower Pasture" where he grew to a Yearling on good grass, with access to high quality hay and minerals, and a daily supplemental ration of between 5 and 8 lbs of 13% protein cattle feed. His yearling weight was 679 lbs with a frame score of 4.5. This performance set a new record for our farm for F3. At 12 months, he transitioned to our "Yearling Pasture" with acres of green hills to roam, with ample hay, mineral and water resources, where he was introduced to an all-natural supplemental feed designed with enough bulk digestible material to prevent over consumption, yet stimulate growth.

At 22 months of age, 1D transitioned to our "Finishing Pasture" at a weight of 1160 lbs. For three months over early 2018, he grazed rye grasses, had high-quality hay, and free choice access to a special formulation of all-natural finishing feed prepared for us by our friends at Hillsboro Feeds, west of Decatur, AL. During this period, he posted weight gains of over 1.75 lbs per day to finish at 1340 lbs live weight. A few more details can be found on our Available Supply page at this link.

1D was harvested on 2-Apr-18 at H & P Meats in South Pittsburgh, TN, the nearest processing plant to our farm that caries the USDA Federally Inspected designation. His carcass weight was approximately 850 lbs.
